Regional Roll-Out of UK Contractors Group’s Creating Britain’s Future to Begin in Manchester

21 - 01 - 2013

UK Contractors Group’s Creating Britain’s Future campaign, which was launched in London last July, aims to demonstrate the importance of construction to the UK economy, to showcase the industry’s capability to deliver world-class projects such as the Olympic Park, and to encourage government investment.

The first regional meeting of the campaign to promote the construction industry will be held in Manchester later this month.

The meeting, which will be attended by senior industry figures, local decision makers, construction apprentices and members of the media, will focus attention on the local benefits of investing in infrastructure, such as job creation and the support of SMEs.

Speakers at the meeting will include Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Paul Sheffield, CEO of Kier Group plc and a leading figure in the Creating Britain’s Future campaign, and Mike Lane, Project Director at Willmott Dixon’s Oldham academies project.

Paul Sheffield, CEO of Kier Group plc, said: ‘Working together to drive forward local construction activity is becoming ever more important as we continue to face economic challenges, and it is great to see the work Manchester City Council is doing to support infrastructure investment.

Construction is essential to maintain the city’s competitiveness and is creating much needed employment in Manchester and the North West.

Delivering world-class infrastructure will put us back on the road to growth’.

The event will take place at Manchester Town Hall on 24th January 2013.
