Have you missed the 07 August 2026 MTD for Income Tax filing deadline? 

You are not alone. 400,000 HMRC expected filings were still outstanding by 07 August 2026.

The good news is that the penalty regime has not yet been applied. HMRC have instigated a soft landing for the start of MTD for income Tax. So no fine for filing a late quarter 1 return.

You must, however, still submit the Quarter 1 return. Any missing quarterly returns will block your Final Declaration! The final declaration has its own penalty regime which has not been suspended.

You need to act now and file that first quarter.
