HMRC increases its compliance checking around CJRS.

20 - 08 - 2020

HMRC’s compliance checking has moved to the next phase and advise that this week they are sending 3,000 letters to employers who it believes may need to repay some of the CJRS grant they have received.

HMRC are advising that they are sending compliance letters to the following two groups:

Either

·         They may have claimed too much, more than they were entitled to

·         Did not meet the initial conditions to be eligible to claim CJRS.

Those employers who receive a compliance letter will be asked to review the claims they made and contact HMRC on 0300 322 9430, even if they don’t believe they have made a mistake.

If an error has occurred and a repayment is due to HMRC, then a voluntary repayment within an agreed period will not result in any penalties.

All authorised payroll agencies will also receive a copy of the employer’s compliance letter.

Should you receive a compliance letter advising you of an overpayment and would like advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
