Don’t forget to renew your tax credits by 31 July

22 - 07 - 2013

Tax credits claimants are advised to renew their claim by 31 July or risk losing their payment.

HMRC, which has sent renewal packs to 5.8 million people since April, are reminding people that the deadline is drawing near.

Claimants are asked to check the accuracy of the information in their packs and inform HMRC of any changes to their circumstances, such as working hours, childcare costs or pay. They must also tell HMRC whether they are single or living with a partner. HMRC may write to claimants to ask for further information and documents so the information provided can be checked.

The claims of those whose circumstances have not changed will be renewed automatically.

‘We are asking claimants to renew immediately. The sooner they do, the sooner we can check their payments and avoid paying too little, or too much money, which they then have to pay back,’ said Nick Lodge, director general of benefits and credits at HMRC.

Last year over 80% of claimants renewed by the deadline.

Claims can be renewed by calling the Tax Credits helpline on 0345 300 3900 or by completing the Annual Declaration form (TC603D or TC603D2) and returning it to the Tax Credit Office in the reply envelope provided.

There is no facility to renew tax credit claims online.
