HMRC Targets Electricians

14 - 02 - 2012

HMRC launched the The Electricians' Tax Safe Plan (ETSP) on 14 February 2012.

Following a successful campaign against plumbers and heating engineers HMRC are sending over 50,000 warning letters specifically to electricians. The letters warn the recipients to pay any undisclosed taxes as soon as possible.

An Electrician Tax Safe Plan gives a special time limited opportunity for electricians to pay any tax that they owe with lower penalties.  The opportunity is intended to cover:

- Genuine mistakes
- Careless errors
- Deliberate withholding of information

An Electrician for these purposes is anyone who installs, maintains and tests electrical systems and equipment.
Electricians can come forward at any time between 14 February 2012 and 15 May 2012. They will then be given until 15 August 2012 to make their disclosure and full payment. After 15 May 2012 HMRC will target anyone who has not come forward who they believe may owe tax.

To make a disclosure electricians will need to:
- Online by completing a form at:
- Ring HMRC on 0845 601 5041
